Stay out of "the friend zone" with your kids?

Of course, every parent has their own style of parenting.
Based on your core values, principles, and lifestyle.
As you should!
I like observing families, their kids, and how parents interact with them.
Luckily, Iāve been surrounded by some pretty amazing parents who have already given me a roadmap.
Although Iām aware my journey might be a lot different.
But I do remember hearing some bad adviceā¦
Donāt be your childās āfriendā. You have to be the authority.
Ok, letās unpack that statement and Iāll tell you why thatās terrible advice.
First, I donāt know about you, but Iāve always been a little rogue to authority. š© Now that could land you in trouble or help you forge your own path to success.
For me a little bit of both.š
Letās forget the authority part for now and talk āfriendsā.
Again, Iām blessed to still have friends for the last 30-something years.
These friends I trust with telling them anything.
These friends have been consistent with their word and actions.
These friends hold me accountable when if I act out of character and to the same principles we share.
These friends I have fun with and want to be around.
I would do anything for these friends.
Now replace friends with mom or dad.
I trust my mom and dad and feel safe telling them anything.
My mom and dad are always consistent with their word and actions.
My mom and dad hold me accountable to the principles we share and when I act out of character.
I have a lot of fun with my mom and dad! I just love being around them.
I would do anything for my mom and dad.
Case closed.
I will be my kidās best friend.
Iād love to hear your thoughts on being your kidās āfriendā!
In your corner,
Greg
